Manhattan Street Named After Elie Wiesel
A section of West 84th Street is now known as Elie Wiesel Way, in honor of ‘the most eloquent voice for peace in our world’

On Tuesday, at the southwest corner of West 84th Street and Central Park West in New York City, a small crowd gathered for a street-naming ceremony in honor of Elie Wiesel, who died last July. Among the attendees were Wiesel’s widow, Marion, his son Elisha, and Richard Buery, the deputy mayor for strategic policy initiatives, who spoke fondly of the day’s honoree. “[Elie Wiesel was] a great humanitarian,” he said, “an immigrant who believed in inclusiveness and love.”
