Scroll Verse: Yaakov Ben David
Danny Z”L by Yaakov Ben David

The Scroll is adding to our poetry output with Scroll Verse, a recurring feature that presents the works of Jewish poets–or in some cases, poets who write on Tablet themes or have Jewish souls. Our last work was Adding It Up by Jake Marmer.
This week’s installment is a beautiful poem by Yaakov Ben David. Enjoy it.
Danny Z”L
Blue dragonfly on fallen shovel
The queries of standing strangers
Beach-shells trophies of a beak
A playground glistening in the rain
Deep dust on the music player
Evening amber the timbre of your voice
Water quickly closes stone-drop-hole
The was-blood flows into a wound.
This poem appears in Yaakov Ben David’s book Unnamed Glories. Reprinted with permission.
