• Olympic champion/Alana Newhouse look-a-like/national treasure Aly Raisman has accepted an invitation to take her first trip to Israel with her family. Raisman was invited by Diaspora Affairs Chief Yuli Edelstein. [JPost]

• Writing in the Washington Post, David Ignatius laments the firing of General Murad Muwafi by Egyptian President Morsi in the wake of Sunday’s Sinai attack. Ignatius explains that Muwafi is well-regarded by international community and had been advocating for a crackdown on Sinai. [WaPo]

• Raymond Harding, leader of the New York State Liberal Party and a World War II refugee from the Balkans, died yesterday. Harding was influential in state politics, wielding his party’s bloc to get mayors and governors elected. [NYT]

• Jo Aleh, a Kiwi Jewish sailor, won the gold medal for New Zealand in the women’s 470 regatta competition at the Olympics. [Jewish Journal]

• The venerable summer music festival Lollapalooza will be making aliyah next year, bringing a bevy of major musical acts to Tel Aviv in August. [JTA]
