Two political scientists take issue with Peter Beinart’s use of statistical data purporting to show declining American Jewish identification with Israel in his big essay. In an excerpt from his new history of Commentary magazine, Benjamin Balint shows how the magazine was integral to the remarkable postwar Jewish invasion of the American literary canon. In his weekly haftorah column, Liel Leibovitz tries to be his own prophet. The Scroll thinks that would be a pretty cool skill to have.
