Each Monday, we choose the most interestingly Jewish announcement from that Sunday’s New York Times Weddings/Celebrations section. This is the obvious pick, but can the obvious pick also be “the most interestingly Jewish” one, all the time? Didn’t think so, which is why instead we turn to the nuptials of Sylvia Simson and Olaitan Gambari. Gambari is the son of a diplomat, the current Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur and a onetime Nigerian minister. But Simson, too, appears to be the child of transplants: her parents are comfortably ensconced in Austin, Texas, while maintaining extensive ties to Simson’s presumably native Québec. And, yes, a rabbi officiated. Mazel tov to the happy couple!
