Neil Diamond at Fenway Park in Boston
April 26, 2013
Perhaps when we look back on the horrific events of these last few weeks, we may find this video of Neil Diamond–bearded, potbellied, and singing tenuously over a track at Fenway Park–underwhelming.
But for now, “Sweet Caroline,” originally a song about a Jew’s wayward fascination with Camelot, became something of a salve for a public in search of symbolic solidarity and goodwill. For that feat alone, we should honor it.
