The world changed over the weekend. On Saturday, June 21, the United States launched precision missile strikes—a mission dubbed “Operation Midnight Hammer”—on three Iranian nuclear sites: Natanz, Isfahan, and the once-impenetrable Fordow. President Donald Trump called the hits “bull’s-eyes,” while Pentagon officials described the damage as “severe” and possibly a “destruction of capabilities,” according to The New York Times. Trump went further on Truth Social, declaring the sites “obliterated.” One thing, however, is certain: Trump’s decision represents the most significant departure from U.S. foreign policy consensus in decades.
