On Monday evening, President Donald Trump posted the following statement on his Truth Social account:

The celebratory tone of the message was well warranted, as the president’s decision to join Israel’s effort to neutralize Iran’s nuclear threat largely succeeded days before his administration brokered a cease-fire between Israel and Iran.

As the night progressed, one could be forgiven for questioning whether a cease-fire had truly been agreed upon. Iran appeared to launch additional strikes at Israel after Trump’s statement, killing four people with a direct hit on a residential building in Beersheva. Israel vowed to retaliate by Tuesday morning (per CBS News), hours before the cease-fire deadline, as the prime minister’s office clarified. Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn early Tuesday, President Trump expressed frustrations. When asked if he believed Iran remained committed to peace, Trump replied, “I do,” before elaborating further:

But they violated [the cease-fire], and Israel violated...
