We’re only two days away from Donald Trump’s June 12 deadline to achieve a deal with Iran, and no deal is in sight. The Iranians have indicated that they plan to formally reject the Trump-Witkoff proposal presented to them last week, which would have allowed them to temporarily continue enriching uranium as a bridge to the construction of a regional “enrichment consortium.” Bloomberg reported Tuesday that Tehran is preparing to present a counteroffer for an interim “framework agreement” at the next round of talks scheduled to take place in Oman on Sunday—three days after the expiration of Trump’s deadline.

In remarks at a Monday business roundtable, Trump made clear that the Iranian proposals thus far were unacceptable. “They’re asking for things that you can’t do,” Trump said. “They don’t want to give up what they have to give up. They seek enrichment. We can’t have enrichment—we want just the opposite....
