Protests against the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration continue to spread throughout the country. On Tuesday, thousands rallied in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Seattle, and elsewhere, mixing “peaceful” protest and “civil disobedience” with calculated militant provocations designed to provoke escalations from local and federal law enforcement. In Seattle, for instance, in a replay of the summer of 2020, masked anarchists and communists blockaded the entrance to a federal building and obstructed Department of Homeland Security police sent to remove them—a step no doubt intended to produce scenes of “protesters” being struck by federal agents and to goad the Trump administration into deploying further federal resources to Seattle.

More demonstrations are scheduled for Wednesday, with The New York Times listing planned protests in Los Angeles and Mission Viejo, California; Seattle; Eugene, Oregon; Raleigh, North Carolina; San Antonio, Texas; and St. Louis, Missouri.
