Mohamed Morsi Can’t Catch a Break

This week: The Egyptian president counters claims of anti-Semitism…with more anti-Semitism

Here at The Scroll, we’ve grown so accustomed to posting about the misadventures of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi that we’ve decided to turn it into a regular feature! (For an audio accompaniment, I recommend listening to the theme song from Sanford and Son while you read.)

Last week, an Egyptian man who had the misfortune of simply looking like Mohamed Morsi was accosted and nearly beaten up near the presidential palace in Cairo until it was revealed that he was just an ordinary citizen lodging a complaint. It seemed a sad story until the man then started charging people to take pictures with him.

This week, Morsi is taking heat in the wake of a high-profile visit from an assemblage of United States senators–seven in fact!–during which Morsi was asked to clarify anti-Semitic statements he made about Jewish people being “bloodsuckers” and “the descendants of apes and pigs.”

How did Morsi respond? Well…as Josh Rogin relays from Delaware Senator Chris Coons’ account:

“He [Morsi] was attempting to explain himself … then he said, ‘Well, I think we all know that the media in the United States has made a big deal of this and we know the media of the United States is controlled by certain forces and they don’t view me favorably,’” Coons said.

The Cable asked Coons if Morsy specifically named the Jews as the forces that control the American media. Coons said all the senators believed the implication was obvious.

“He did not say [the Jews], but I watched as the other senators physically recoiled, as did I,” he said. “I thought it was impossible to draw any other conclusion.”

Sometimes you can’t help but explain that you’re not an anti-Semite by being even more anti-Semitic. Mohamed Morsi can’t catch a break!

“Can’t catch a break” makes it seem cutesy. This is anything but that. The implications for Jews and Israel make me shudder. Realize, this is what he decides to share with senators (who, apparently, are controlled by the Jewish Lobby). Guessing at what he says in private, and what he believes, scares me.

Scott Tennis says:

The only thing he should catch is a bullet.

This blog clearly illustrates that the truth is in fact “anti-semitic”.. Jews have American media on lockdown… http://articles.latimes.com/2008/dec/19/opinion/oe-stein19...

Listening and watching president Morsi in Arabic ,which is my first language, was shocking to say the least .
there have been many anti Semitic remarks by Arab senior politicians in the past ,however this is the first time , such demonising and deeply offensive words ever said by a senior Egyptian politician . The true Mr president is coming out from his moderate camouflage . It led me to further research most of the top layer of Muslim Brotherhood , where I read and listen to their Arabic , which was full of hate to non-Muslims in general and Jews in particular .
There is a problem, as he seemed to enforce his remarks during his recent meeting with the US senators . It is a sad day for Egypt to have a man of such a mindset at the helm , who appear to have the intention to break bridges of peace , as a president of this great and old nation .

Then I guess you feel really lucky we let you post this comment, right?

AriShavit says:

We’ve survived worse. This isn’t the first Egyptian leader to hate Israel. I doubt it will be the last.

Here is what Victoria Nuland or Jay Carney might say about Morsi- Apes, pigs and bloodsuckers have distorted President Morsi’s comments about apes, pigs and bloodsuckers. Now that it has been explained, everything is ok

American Jewish lobbyist, who are these folks?

Ah. So you choose a tongue in cheek article, written by a Jew, to make your point. Hey Einstein, get a clue (and yes, that was meant to be ironic).

Somehow, successful Jews, to you, is the same thing as a cabal of Jews conspiring. Tell me, where’s the meeting where the agenda is discussed? I want to be invited next time. And by the way, what exactly IS the “Jewish” agenda? Do you mean to imply that all Jews in Hollywood, and the media, have the same sinister plan? And what exactly is that plan, by the way? Is it the overthrow of Capitalism? If so, the Jews on Wall Street would be pretty ticked off about that. Is it propaganda about Israel being a shining light, and a victim? If so, the Jewish media is pretty incompetent at selling that one. I give up. What, exactly, IS the Jewish conspiracy, you Nazi f*ck? (yes, I see the swastika in your photo).
