Privacy Policy

Updated March 9, 2021

We know that you care how information about you is used and shared. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes our treatment of your personal information, how you can make choices about that treatment, and how you can request access to your information. This Privacy Statement applies to your use of Our Services only. We do not own, operate or control the web sites of the vendors that assist us in maintaining Our Site, including our Survey Vendor, our newsletter vendor, or our webhost (collectively, “Vendors”). Accordingly, this Statement does not apply to our Vendors’ web sites or our Vendors’ collection, use, storage and disclosure of your Personal Information, except where stated otherwise.

Collection and Use of Information

This section describes the types of information we collect and the purpose for collection.

We will collect and store certain information about your location on Our Site and provide you certain information on Our Site based on that location. We will not collect any location information that you do not volunteer or enable. We will delete any location information that you request is deleted.  We do collect and store your device’s source IP address, which may disclose the location of your device at the time you access Our Site.

Specifically, we use your location information to:

  • Personalize content on Our Site, including providing you information, recommendations and feedback based on your preferences
  • Optimize or improve our products, services and operations
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent activities that may violate our policies or be illegal
  • Perform statistical, demographic, and marketing analyses of users of Our Site

Your Personal Information

We ask you to submit personal information, including your name, email and postal addresses, and phone number (“Personal Information”), when you submit letters to the Editor, sign up for our newsletter, and email an article to a third party. If you use our “email this article” feature, we will ask for your email address and the email address of the recipient.

How We Use Your Personal Information

We use your Personal Information in order to publish your letters to the Editor, to fulfill your requests, including through our Vendors, and, if you sign up for our newsletter, to send you emails containing our articles and features and survey invitations. If you use our “email this article” feature, we use the Personal Information you give us solely to send the article by email to the recipient you designate. We do not store either address.

Newsletter and Surveys

When you sign up for our newsletter, from time to time we may send you emails inviting you to participate in a survey hosted by our third-party survey vendor (“Survey Vendor”), which will share the results with us. The results of the surveys help us to improve Our Site. Because the surveys are hosted by the Survey Vendor, its use of the information you submit is governed by its privacy policy. The surveys include requests for your demographic information, such as your age, but not your name or other Personal Information and the results are not connected to your email address. You may unsubscribe from our newsletter and these survey invitations at any time by following the “unsubscribe” link in any newsletter email. However, you cannot separately opt out of receiving survey invitations if you wish to receive our newsletter.

Sharing Information

We will make your Personal Information available on Our Site when we publish your letters to the Editor and to our Vendors that assist us in delivering electronic mailings and provide hosting and maintenance for Our Site. Your answers to the survey questions will be available to us and the Survey Vendor.

In the event of a transfer of ownership of Nextbook or Tablet Magazine, such as a merger with another organization, we reserve the right to transfer your personal information.

We may disclose and use Personal Information in special circumstances when it is necessary to enforce our User Agreement or this Privacy Policy, or when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires us to disclose your personal information to third parties.

Any data collected through Tablet’s mobile application will not be used for tracking purposes or shared with any third-parties for tracking purposes.

Anonymous Information

Our server automatically collects certain anonymous information, such as the number of users visiting each page of Our Site, the IP address of each user’s computer, the browser each user employs, and the sites from which users come to Our Site. We may also use cookies to track traffic on specific areas of Our Site. Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser to enable our systems to recognize your computer. If you choose, you can remove our cookies by disabling them in your Internet browser. We use all this anonymous information only on an aggregate basis to evaluate how our users use and navigate Our Site so that we can continue to improve Our Site. We do not link this anonymous information to your Personal Information.

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit Our Site. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here.

We also use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”), on Our Site. Google Analytics uses cookies or other tracking technologies to help us analyze how users interact with and use Our Site, compile reports on the Our Sites’ activity, and provide other services related to Our Site’s activity and usage. The technologies used by Google may collect information such as your IP address, time of visit, whether you are a return visitor, and any referring site. Our Site does not use Google Analytics to gather information that personally identifies you. The information generated by Google Analytics will be transmitted to and stored by Google and will be subject to Google’s privacy policies located here.

We and our third-party partners may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons, SDKs, pixels (or “clear gifs”) and other tracking technologies. Pixels are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognize when someone has visited our Our Site or, in the case of web beacons, opened an email that we have sent them. This allows us, for example, to monitor the traffic patterns of Visitors from one page within our Our Site to another, to deliver or communicate with cookies, to understand whether you have come to Our Site from an online advertisement displayed on a third-party website, to serve targeted advertisements to you and others like you, to improve site performance, and to measure the success of marketing campaigns. While you may not have the ability to specifically reject or disable these tracking technologies, in many instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies to function properly; accordingly, in those instances, declining cookies will impair the functionality of these technologies.
