Snowbird season—that time of year when so many people swap freezing temps for sun and sand—is just around the corner. It makes sense, then, that for this installment of Across the JEW.S.A, we follow suit, pack our bags, and head south to Florida.
But this was no trip to Del Boca Vista for canasta and cocktails.
We went to Miami, where the Jewish community has been growing since 2014—and not just with retirees. In fact, the version of Jewish Miami we discovered was young, innovative, and ready to do Jewish their own way. There was La Casa, an innovative Jewish study group that attracts Jewish high schoolers whose families immigrated from Latin America. We threw clay with an Israeli-Californian expat whose pottery classes have become a gathering spot for mindful creativity. And have you ever tried somatics? We hadn’t either, but are now believers in how this type of breath and bodywork can connect us to our Jewish ways of moving through the world.
If you’ve been along for this trip around America with us since our time on the Bourbon Trail in Louisville or on a trip to Jewish horse camp in Colorado, thanks for making the journey with us. But don’t stop now! This trip to Miami is one you’ll want to join us on.
Across the JEW.S.A is created with support from the Jewish Federations of North America.
