In his new novel, David Bezmozgis introduces us to a family in limbo. They are the Krasnanskys, a smallish, three-generation clan of Soviet Jews that in 1978 finds itself stuck in Ladispoli, Italy, on its way to—so they all hope—North America. On Monday’s episode of “Vox Tablet,” Bezmozgis speaks with host Sara Ivry about this Italian refugee way station, which he and his family also passed through. He remembers in particular the strange ways in which Soviet Jews began their process of acculturation.
