On the one hand, in Todd Haynes’ brilliant meta-biopic none of the Dylans are really all that Jewish; in fact, they almost come across as more goyishe than the actual Dylan ever has been. It’s when you step back and view the kaleidoscopic whole, the Zelig-like chameleon with whatever he needs positively coursing through him, that you see Dylan for what he was: the paradoxically deracinated ethnic.
